Youth Matters Green Paper
14-19 White Paper
Some Key Points:
Vocational diplomas in 14 broad sector areas. Employers, through Sector Skills Councils, will lead in their design and higher education institutions will also have an important role to play. These specialised diplomas will replace the current system of around 3,500 separate qualifications and will provide an alternative gateway to higher education and skilled employment.
At advanced level, stretch secured by more demanding, optional questions at A level and an extended project, and the availability of HE modules.
Disengaged young people - extra support to master the basics, more choice over where to learn, and a new programme for 14-16 year olds, based on Entry to Employment. A new level 1 Diploma will provide progression.
Renewed emphasis on the basics throughout the secondary phase, putting achievement in English and maths at the heart of new general (GCSE) Diplomas and specialised Diplomas.
