Learning Hubs

The Hubs are available for "drop in" use as well as specially organised courses for local groups. Each Hub is 'available to all' regardless of abilities or IT skills.

Two innovatively designed ICT (Information Communication Technology) Learning Hubs have been installed in Chadwell Library and Tilbury Library Round Room.  Each Hub has a number of computers, a printer and a scanner.

These have been designed and built to a very high standard maximising the space available and with the needs of those with physical disabilities in mind. There are eight intrastations at the Chadwell Hub with 18" flat panel screens for ease of vision.  Each instrastation is a curved unit with no corners for people to catch themselves on and no bulky units to get in the way.  There is ample room for eight wheelchair users to sit comfortably at each intrastation.  Tilbury has six intrastations but all the same resources and access.

In addition to all the standard Microsoft Office software and Photoshop, there is software on the computers which is useful for visually impaired and dyslexic users.

The Hubs are available for "drop in" use as well as specially organised courses for local groups.  Each Hub is 'available to all' regardless of abilities or IT skills.

Chadwell and Tilbury were chosen to provide greater opportunities and more resources for people living in these areas.

All this has been made possible by a successful bid to the DfES Capital Modernisation fund and the New Opportunities Fund.  Continuing free internet connection to March 2004 was made possible by a further successful bid the European Social Fund.  The internet is now funded by Thurrock Libraries.

The Partnership is delighted it has been able to bring so much funding into Thurrock.  It is important we evidence to all the funders that it was worthwhile awarding this money to Thurrock by as many people as possible coming in to use both the Learning Hubs and the TAPs.
